The Lucy and Joseph Cho Foundation Held
2008 Scholarship Award Ceremony
On
September 13, 2008, the Lucy and Joseph Cho Foundation held its annual
Scholarship Award Ceremony in which scholarships were awarded to 13 high
school and college students. At the
Ceremony, which was held at the
Foundation office located at 18021 Norwalk Blvd. #213 Artesia,
scholarship recipients also received certificates of recognition from
Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, State Controller John Chiang, State Senator
Alan Lowenthal, Assembly member Tony Mendoza, Los Angeles County
Supervisor Don Knabe, ABC Unified School District President Mark Pulido
and Cerritos College President Bill Farmer
After congratulating all award recipients for their dedication, hard work, and academic and life achievements, Councilmember
Joseph Cho, Co-Chair of the Foundation, said “When I look back on my
life, I am always excited to recall the many gracious people who have
helped me along the way up to tonight. I am full of gratitude, and
because I do not know the proper words to express my heartfelt thanks to
those who have helped me, the only thing I can do is to give back to the
next generation. This is why my wife, Lucy, and I decided to set up our
family’s non-profit organization, the Lucy and Joseph Cho Foundation. I
believe that those who have helped me would fully support our decision.
The small tokens of support awarded tonight will hopefully lead the
recipients to do special and great things. I hope that someday the
students here tonight will remember this evening and give back to the
generation after them.”

The Lucy and Joseph Cho Foundation
The Lucy and Joseph Cho Foundation is a non-profit
organization founded by Lucy and Joseph Cho in 2004. The Chos immigrated
to the United States in 1974 and have lived in Cerritos for over thirty
years. In establishing the Foundation, their desire is to give back to
the community which has made it possible for them to fulfill their
dreams and aspirations. Their three children, Andy, Tony and Jia, were
raised and schooled in Cerritos public schools, attended college at
University of California campuses, and have obtained a degree of Juris
Doctor. In addition, the Chos have experienced firsthand that an act of
kindness often is eclipsed by the positive impact it achieves. Firm
believers in the power of beneficence, the Chos wish to help others the
same way they were aided in their time of need.
The Foundation grants scholarships to high school and college students.
The Chos hope to assist in opening up avenues of educational opportunity
for eligible students, and thereby improve their future. The Chos are
committed to education and public service.
